As filming progressed, rumors of a fallout between Kartik Aaryan and Karan Johar started circulating, and by 2021, Dostana 2 was suddenly shelved. Despite being around 60-70% complete, the project was abandoned, leaving fans disappointed and wondering what went wrong.
Now, in an interview with News18, actor Juhi Babbar, who was in talks to join the cast, revealed some details about the original plot of the film. She clarified that the story fans had heard about, involving Janhvi and Lakshya as siblings falling in love with Kartik, was not true. Instead, Juhi shared that her role was to be Kartik and Janhvi’s mother, with Janhvi and Kartik playing twins who both fall for Lakshya’s character. This plot twist would have brought a fun and unexpected dynamic to the story.
Juhi also opened up about why the film was shelved. She explained that a disagreement had occurred, and despite the film being close to completion, the project was put on hold. However, Juhi also shared that Kartik and Karan Johar have since reconciled. The two are now working together on a new rom-com titled Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, which is set to release in 2026.
The Dostana 2 saga may have ended prematurely, but with Kartik and Janhvi continuing to rise in their careers, fans remain hopeful that they will reunite on screen in the future. For now, all that remains of Dostana 2 are the rumors and unfulfilled potential.
