The production, directed by Aditya Chopra, reimagines the classic DDLJ story in English, centering around Simran, a British Indian woman engaged to a family friend in India. However, she falls in love with a British man named Roger, leading to a heartfelt journey of love and self-discovery. The musical features 18 original songs composed by Vishal Dadlani and Sheykhar Ravjiani, with lyrics by Nell Benjamin. The creative team includes renowned talents such as choreographer Rob Ashford and scenic designer Derek McLane.
Suzanne Donnelly, Executive Director of Railway 200, expressed excitement about the partnership, emphasizing the historical connection between railways and storytelling. She stated that the railway has long been an inspiration for filmmakers and that DDLJ’s 30th anniversary is the perfect occasion to celebrate this connection.
Akshaye Widhani, CEO of Yash Raj Films, shared that YRF has always aimed to tell stories with a global impact, and DDLJ is a testament to that. He highlighted that King’s Cross Railway Station played a significant role in the film, making this collaboration with Railway 200 even more special.
With immersive activations planned at Manchester and London railway stations, this collaboration aims to celebrate love, diversity, and the power of storytelling that transcends borders.
