Diljit Dosanjh Takes a Stand Against CBFC Censorship of Punjab'95

The actor-singer, Diljit Dosanjh refuses to support the film if it is released with cuts, with director Honey Trehan backing his stance.

Bollywood actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh has strongly opposed the censorship of his upcoming film Punjab'95, which has been facing challenges from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for over a year. The film, directed by Honey Trehan, is based on the life of Sikh rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, who exposed human rights violations during Punjab’s militancy era.

Diljit Dosanjh Refuses to Support Censored Release

During a recent Instagram live session, Diljit was asked about the film’s release status. He stated that while he hopes the film reaches audiences soon, he will not support it if it is released with cuts. He emphasized that modifying the film would defeat its original purpose and dilute its message.

Previously, when the trailer was released on January 17, Diljit had announced an international release date of February 7, where the film would be shown uncut. However, the release did not take place, and its Indian release remains on hold as the team refuses to comply with CBFC’s demands.

Director Honey Trehan Supports Diljit’s Stand

Backing Diljit’s stance, director Honey Trehan shared a clip of the actor’s statement on his Instagram story. He declared that if any cuts were made, he would also withdraw his name as the film’s director. He criticized CBFC’s demands, calling them politically motivated, and reaffirmed his commitment to the film and its team. Expressing his respect for Jaswant Singh Khalra’s legacy, he hoped the world would see the uncut version of the film soon.

Despite its powerful narrative, the film’s release remains uncertain due to its controversial subject. While fans eagerly await its arrival, the makers seem determined to uphold the film’s integrity, even if it means delaying its release. Whether Punjab'95 will see the light of day without cuts remains a question that only time will answer.
