Anurag Kashyap Prefers Film Festivals Over Indian Theatres—Here’s Why

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap shared his frustration with Indian theatres, stating that frequent interruptions ruin his movie-watching experience, leading him to prefer film festivals.

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap recently expressed his dissatisfaction with Indian theatres, stating that interruptions like intervals and health-related messages disrupt his movie-watching experience. In a conversation with Forbes, he mentioned that he now prefers watching films at festivals rather than in commercial theatres.

Speaking about the state of independent cinema, Kashyap shared that he no longer tries to predict the future but focuses on the challenges faced by filmmakers. He explained that while he enjoys discussing problems and potential solutions, he dislikes the constant interruptions in Indian theatres, which take away from the immersive experience of watching a film on the big screen.

Kashyap’s Commitment to Filmmaking

The director also spoke about his lifelong love for cinema. He mentioned that no matter what challenges he faces, he remains committed to making films. He recalled his early days in the industry, emphasizing that he started from nothing and would always return to his passion for filmmaking. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of supporting independent voices, stating that having more filmmakers with unique perspectives would create a better environment for the industry.

Kashyap’s Recent Work and Industry Observations

Kashyap’s last film, Kennedy, received praise at the Cannes Film Festival but has not yet secured an Indian release. While he has not directed any new projects since then, he has acted in several films, including Leo, Maharaja, and Viduthalai Part 2. His statements reflect his continued passion for filmmaking and his concern about the direction of the Indian film industry.
