In a statement shared by Variety, Priyanka expressed pride in being part of the impactful project. She called the film a "thought-provoking piece" that highlights the harsh realities millions of children face worldwide. PC reflected on the movie's theme, emphasizing the weight of choices and their influence on life trajectories.

Anuja was created in collaboration with Salaam Baalak Trust, a non-profit established by Mira Nair's family to assist street and working children. The production also involved Shine Global, known for Oscar-winning documentaries like War/Dance and Inocente, alongside Krushan Naik Films. Mindy Kaling joined the project as a producer, making it a collaborative effort with a global reach. For Guneet Monga Kapoor, Anuja could mark her third Oscar nomination. She previously won Academy Awards for The Elephant Whisperers and Period: End of Sentence, both of which earned international acclaim.

The Oscar buzz surrounding Anuja comes at a time when another Indian film, Santosh, also remains in contention for the prestigious awards. Directed by Sandhya Suri and starring Shahana Goswami, Santosh represents the UK’s official entry for the Oscars after debuting at the Cannes Film Festival. With Priyanka Chopra and Guneet Monga Kapoor backing Anuja, the film not only holds promise for another triumph for Indian cinema but also sheds light on pressing global issues through its poignant storytelling.
